ND & MN – Gate City Bank is once again empowering community members to nominate their favorite charities this Giving Hearts Day, continuing its tradition of support for local organizations since 2014.
Through Gate City Bank’s annual nomination contest – which allows individuals to nominate Giving Hearts Day charities as many times and as often as they want – one lucky charity will receive $25,000, and two additional winners will each be awarded $10,000!1 The nomination period runs from January 22 to February 6, with the recipients set to be chosen through random drawings and later announced on Giving Hearts Day, February 13.
For the past 11 years, Gate City Bank has facilitated more than 823,000 nominations, with over 150,000 submitted in 2024 alone. The bank has also donated more than $2 million through its key partnership with Giving Hearts Day, benefiting 300 charities and matching 100% of team member contributions.
“At Gate City Bank, we believe in going big by continually setting new goals and finding creative ways to support the Giving Hearts Day charities that keep our communities strong,” said Amanda Torok, Senior Vice President of Culture. “Through this remarkable partnership, we’ve been eager to help make a difference, and seeing the growing number of nominations from year to year has been nothing short of inspiring.”
Gate City Bank’s annual charity nomination contest continues to grow in popularity, and for good reason. With each passing year, community members are able to see the real-life impact their submissions have on nonprofits, who work tirelessly to care for those in need.
During Giving Hearts Day 2023, for example, there was a massive response from community members when they learned that Gate City Bank would gift $100,000 to the winning charity, in honor of the bank’s 100th anniversary. The big winner was Creative Care for Reaching Independence (CCRI), a Moorhead, MN-based nonprofit that exists to enhance and enrich the lives and learning of people with disabilities. CCRI used the money to expand mental health services and expedite plans to build an accessible house for a group of clients, lovingly known as the “Fabulous Four.”
Another notable example was Giving Hearts Day 2024, when Rape and Abuse Crisis Center (RACC) was announced as the recipient of Gate City Bank’s $50,000 donation. It was a victory for victims – especially since the nonprofit was experiencing a critical need to expand its pool of community advocates. RACC’s CEO described the funds as a “saving grace” that would also help bolster support services for his staff, who respond to cases 24/7.

Leading up to Giving Hearts Day, Gate City Bank also plans to go big in the fight against hunger. Now through February 13, the bank will hold a multi-community food drive, collecting nonperishable items for local food pantries. Community members can donate toward the cause by visiting any of the bank’s convenient locations.
There’s a reason why Gate City Bank is honing in on hunger – one in five people experience it in North Dakota alone, with 50% being children and senior citizens. This is according to Great Plains Food Bank, which utilizes a semitrailer donated by Gate City Bank to deliver 12.5 million meals that help 100,000 individuals each year.
Gate City Bank’s dedication to providing food security highlights an urgent need in its communities, which is why the bank has committed more than $220,000 to West Fargo Eats since 2021. The bank is proud to be part of the West Fargo Eats Food Share Alliance, along with Great Plains Food Bank, Lutheran Church of the Cross and YWCA Cass Clay. It has also provided food assistance in countless other ways throughout the years.
